ABOUT
My website is named “Natural Instinct” and falls
under the category of‘journalism’ and is based around a genre of ‘nature and
wildlife’. It expresses news articles, a blog, photos, videos and information on
how to help, based on animals and the environment. As you can see, the CMS I
have used is Weebly due to its many layout choices and ease of use compared to
others like Wix or Wordpress. The blog page which I will update weekly is called
“Save the Species” and focuses on a different endangered species each week –
which I choose at random but am open to suggestions from viewers.
‘Natural Instinct’ has a colour-scheme of green due to its link
to nature – and originally I was going to include blue as well, but decided
against it in order to keep the layout simple and not overpowering in
colours.
The
website has a taskbar of six links including ‘about’, ‘news’,‘images’, ‘videos’,
‘Save the Species’ and ‘how to help’. As I detailed in Assignment 2, each link
on the taskbar is in an easy-to-read font and in bold lettering making it easy
to understand. The homepage contains the most recent posts allowing viewers to
find them easily without having to use the navigation much. The
‘how to help’ link provides viewers with extra information allowing them to feel
a connection as they can be a part of the
solution.
As
planned, the layout consists of a plain white background so that the content
can contrast easily and a large banner at the top with an image that summarises
what ‘Natural Instinct’ represents. This, combined with other imagery
throughout the website, on the front page or the images tab, will attract
viewers’attention and present them with a representation of what information the
website presents. There are also videos relating to the topic on the ‘videos’
page.
It is also important to me to allow viewers to feel like they
are part of the website and its cause, for this reason viewers need to be able
to contact me and provide information or suggestions. As you can see, for this
reason I have provided my e-mail and also post each blog to Facebook and
Twitter.
The ‘images’ and ‘videos’ page are intended for viewers to send
in their contributions relating to nature and animals – this can be wild animals
or even pets. I am also keen to receive suggestions for the endangered species’
of my ‘Save the Species’ blog in the comments or by e-mail so I have encouraged
users to make contact with me via e-mail.
